Volunteer

Our volunteers are our most important asset and they do a remarkable job for the animals, the shelter and our programs. If you would like to join us to find homes for animals, educate the public or raise funds, this is what you need to do:

  • Complete an application.
  • Attend a Volunteer Orientation Session. You'll be contacted to reserve your spot.
  • Be 18 years of age or older. Youth ages 11-17 must be accompanied by a parent for all volunteer sessions.

Everyday, a volunteer helps improve the life of an animal here at the Wisconsin Humane Society. Our volunteers help over 15,000 animals a year through such programs as Foster Care, Dog Walking or working in our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Our beautiful shelter allows us to provide the best creature comforts for our animals and the volunteers who interact with them. Click here to see how much the volunteers contribute to WHS.

Exciting volunteer opportunities that help animals are always opening. Learn more!

Our state-of-the-art building includes areas designed specifically for socializing cats and rabbits. The Canine Country Clubs are where we teach manners to our pooches and the Day Spa is for grooming and bathing some of our furry guests. We also have an outdoor Wildlife Rehabilitation area where wild animals receive special treatment before they are released back to the wild. Each volunteer position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a difference for animals.

Volunteers as young as 13 years old may volunteer by themselves in our Orphaned Bird Care program that takes place during the spring and summer months. The Wisconsin Humane Society gears each volunteer position to the appropriate aged volunteers. For some positions, young people may volunteer with an adult. Please read each volunteer opportunity for the minimum age requirements.
