Because of the outstanding care that animals receive and the personalized services available to adopters, most animals in our adoption program find homes quickly. We want to help adopters find an animal that will be compatible with their home environment and lifestyle. Stop in and speak with an Adoption Counselor to learn more about any of the animals available for adoption.
And don't worry; there are no time limits at WHS, all adoptable animals stay in adoption until the staff can find them a good home!
Of course, the Wisconsin Humane Society is so grateful for the kindness of folks like Kenneth who help to ensure that the shelter has the resources it needs to save the lives of animals who need help. We couldn't do what we do at WHS without the generous support of people in our community and beyond who love animals and want to make a difference.
Many thanks, meows, tail wags and sloppy puppy kisses to everyone who supports the work of WHS and OHS. May you have a safe, happy and healthy 2009! |

The Wisconsin Humane Society's Humane Education programs are an essential part of promoting kindness toward animals and breaking the cycle of violence. We offer a variety of educational programming for people and animals of all ages. Our goal is to foster respect and compassion for animals. |

Many animals are surrendered to animal shelters each year because their guardians have difficulty finding rental properties that allow them. WHS has a list that identifies apartments in the Metro-Milwaukee area that are "Animal-Friendly." This list was prepared by WHS to be used as a tool for tenants and property managers and is a free service. |

Recent snows have brought birds like Dark-eyed Juncos, American Tree Sparrows, Pine Siskins and Purple Finches to area bird feeders. Protect the health of these birds by keeping your feeders and bird baths clean and protect them from death or injury from colliding with your windows.
Thanks to the support of folks like Kathryn and Steve, the Wisconsin Humane Society's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center cares for more than 5,000 wild birds and animals each year.
If you love animals and wildlife, you may want to consider taking a behind-the-scenes tour! Tours are offered on a regular basis at the shelter. Call 414-ANIMALS to find out the date and time of our next one! |

Everyday, a volunteer helps improve the life of an animal here at the Wisconsin Humane Society. Our volunteers help nearly 20,000 animals a year through such programs as Foster Care, Dog Walking or working in our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Our beautiful shelter allows us to provide the best creature comforts for our animals and the volunteers who interact with them. Click here to see how much the volunteers contribute to WHS. |

Does your dog run everywhere but to you when you call him to “come”? Dogs learn to ignore this important cue for a variety of reasons. WHS is holding a special class that will introduce guardians to methods for successfully and reliably getting their dog to come when called. It focuses on positive techniques using reward-based training.

The Wisconsin Humane Society is actively pursuing more humane public policies to protect animals and treat them with respect and kindness. We educate lawmakers, we work with Milwaukee County and City officials and we offer easy ways for our supporters to communicate their feelings to legislators. We know that animals have no hope for a better future without our help. Thank goodness for people like Jane who regularly support the work of the shelter!
